Our First Strategic Engagement with the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Mohammed Bugaje, on the Future of Polytechnic Education and the Advancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria
As part of our commitment to repositioning polytechnic education in Nigeria, we held our first strategic engagement with the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Mohammed Bugaje, to deliberate on the future of polytechnic education and the advancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country.
The engagement focused on strengthening the quality, relevance, and competitiveness of polytechnic education through improved policies, curriculum innovation, industry-driven training, digital transformation, quality assurance, and enhanced collaboration between government, regulatory agencies, and student stakeholders.
We also discussed pressing issues affecting Nigerian polytechnic students, including programme accreditation, employability, skills development, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, and the need to align technical education with the demands of the modern economy. The meeting further underscored the importance of sustained student participation in policy formulation and implementation to ensure that reforms reflect the aspirations and realities of Nigerian students.
The engagement marked the beginning of a productive partnership between the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), reinforcing our shared commitment to building a more innovative, globally competitive, and industry-responsive technical education system for Nigeria.
